Baldwin Street: Margaritas & Kekou Gelato

After a day at Doors Open Toronto, I ventured down to Baldwin Street with a friend to grab a late lunch. The street is quiet, almost completely free of traffic, with a canopy of trees and lined with quaint restaurants and shops.

We popped into Margaritas, a vine-covered restaurant with a private little patio. We ordered quickly and settled in to enjoy finally being off our feet.

For lunch, I had fish tacos and my friend had a burrito. The food was just fine, but the highlight was the delicious mango margarita. After work or on a weekend evening I could see it being the perfect, laid-back place to come get drinks with friends.

From our table we had a view across the street of a very busy gelato shop. While the street was fairly quiet today, the spot had a constant stream of people coming and going. We decided we could resist heading over for dessert to see what the fuss was about.

The shop was adorable, and the flavours looked so exotic, they were happy to hand over samples to try. I settled on the plum berry and peach, and it was a perfectly refreshing end to the day. Even if you're not looking for amazing gelato or a fun place for drinks, there are countless restaurants lining this peaceful street, making it the perfect place for a summer lunch or dinner.
